In attendance were Christopher Duras representing patch.com and Dave De Feo, Weed Harvester Coordinator
Treasurer’s Report:
Was accepted unanimously as reported by Glenn Ganz,Treasurer; Glenn discussed the consequences of decision making regarding financial issues.
Publicity and Public Awareness:
Jeannie Purcella discussed the drownings on Lakes Candlewood and Lillinonah and the Candlewood Lake lawsuit which includes the Candlewood Lake Authority members etal.
Coast Guard Auxiliary:
A Boating Safety Course will be held on Saturday, July 24,2010 in Oxford at the Flotilla Training Center, American Legion, Oxford Road,; students should call 203-888-2988 to reserve a seat. Bob Mouchantat, Vice Chairman, announced that as per Bob Bowolick’s suggestion a link has been established with the CGAux and LZA websites.
LZA Grants:
William May reported that the paperwork is in process.
Marine Patrol Report:
Bob Barnes, Chairman, discussed emails that were replied to regarding lake issues: a Kettletown S.P.camper planning to bring a 26 foot boat to Lake Zoar questioned the depth , availability of navigational aids and topographic layout of the lake.;a resident across from the sandbar requested that the weeds be cut on the Newtown side not just on the Southbury side as the weeds are so bad this year; Mr Pfister’s buoy application and placement is still of concern to the Cedarhurst Association as it interferes with boat docking; a complaint regarding jetskiiers riding within five feet of the Jackson Cove dock at 6p.m. on july 4th and no boating enforcement there ; there was one boat on at 6p.m.; this complaint was reported to Oxford P.D. Bob also reported that S.P.radios were installed on the LZA Marine
Patrol boats this weekend as per Dan Semoskey’s request to improve communications. On Monday, Monroe officers were unavailable thus S.P. patrolled.The Marine Patrol sub- committee met with Lieutenant Ed Bednar and Captain George Battle at Troop A last Thursday and discussed a future meeting with DEP representative re S.P. patrolling when Town officers are unavailable.Bob Mouchantat, Vice Chairman, made a motion(seconded Glenn Ganz,Treasurer) to have Dan Semoskey S.P. check the LZA Marine Patrol schedule with the Towns.
Water Quality:
Dave De Feo, Weed Harvester Coordinator reported an unusual heavy weed growth this year ; the Weedharvester was launched one month earlier this year and heavy weed growths are present at Fishrock and the Riverside sandbar; curly milfoil is heavy at Fishrock ; dump site availability is a problem as it takes one hour to fill the boat(approximately 3-4 cu yds which is halved when dry.
New Business:
Brian Wood and Bob Gates will be invited by Carolyn Wilson, Secretary, to the August LZA Meeting via certified letter to discuss the water quality issues. The First Selectman of each Town will be invited by Jeannie Purcella via written invitation to participate in an approx. one hour Boat Tour of Lake Zoar on a Wed with a Thurs raindate.
A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by William May (seconded Bob Bowolick) Bob Barnes, Chairman, adjourned the meeting at 8:50 p.m.
